So much to offer
Under the Red Verandah was a distinctive landmark building on the corner of Worcester and Tancred Streets until February 2011 when a destructive earthquake shook our old girl requiring its demolishment shortly after. It was over 100 years old, and had a sketchy yet rich history and had been home to the cafe since 1997. After the earthquake, we temporarily moved into the adjoining cottage, serving our coffee and food out of compostable cups and plates and later into a purpose built cafe in the old smithy. We saved the red verandah and some of the windows and re-cycled them, giving the new cafe the same quirky feel as the previous one.
Owner Mandy Heasley believes Under the Red Verandah still provides an 'urban oasis' in the heart of Linwood, offering a unique blend of food, coffee and service all set within a charming new building and tranquil courtyard.
Part of the cafe's success and popularity is its ability to cater for everyone and all occassions, whether it's a quick bite, takeaway coffee, brunch, lunch or business meeting.
Under the Red Verandah has created the perfect balance of style, sophistication and atmosphere generated by its wholesome food, exceptional coffee, music and friendly knowledgeable team, who are all passionate and work hard to make people love coming through the doors again and again.
All time favourites like eggs benedict, bagels and pancakes are the foundation of the brunch menu, with our lunch menu changing with the seasons, catering to many dietary needs such as vegetarian and gluten free and using organic produce where we can.
Under the Red Verandah prides itself on buidling a reputation and environment where people continue to visit for the quality of the food and service provided. Our Team is proud of this achievement and brimming with energy and ambition for developing the cafe further. "Our goal is to be the best cafe in NZ. We'd love to see you...anytime".
